Texas Bluebonnet Award

What is the Texas Bluebonnet Award?

The Texas Bluebonnet Award is sponsored by the Texas Library Association (TLA) and is one of the most prestigious children’s choice literary awards in the United States. Each year, 20 books are chosen for the Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List. Schools, and libraries around the state participate in the program, encouraging students in grades 3-6 to read a minimum of five books from the list. Then, in January, students vote for their favorite title. The author of the book receiving the most votes wins the Texas Bluebonnet Award (TBA) which is presented at the Texas Bluebonnet Award presentation held during the TLA Annual Conference in the spring.

Bluebonnet Club at Kennedy-Powell

Our 3rd-5th graders will have the opportunity to join thousands of their peers across the state in choosing this year's winner. Many of the Bluebonnet nominees are available for students to checkout in our library, and we have a great collection of past nominees/award winners as well. (The Temple Public Library is also an excellent place to find these books.) Students will track their reading in Beanstack, and those who have read at least 5 of the nominated books will be able to vote for their favorite book in January. In addition, students who read at least 5 of the nominees - and track their reading in Beanstack - will be eligible to attend the Bluebonnet Breakfast in the spring semester!
